From December 28 to 31, 2024, the "First Frontier Forum on Sustainable Utilization of Grassland Resources and the 2024 Academic Annual Meeting of the Grassland Resources and Utilization Professional Committee of the Chinese Grassland Society" was successfully held in Haikou City, Hainan Province. The conference was guided by the Chinese Grassland Society, hosted by the Grassland Resources and Utilization Professional Committee of the Chinese Grassland Society, hosted by the School of Ecology of Hainan University, and co-organized by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theme of the conference was "High-quality protection, restoration and sustainable utilization of grassland resources under the background of global change", which attracted more than 300 experts, scholars, teachers, students and practitioners from all over the country. During the meeting, experts and scholars from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and many universities, research institutes, enterprises and institutions across the country gathered together to discuss the sustainable utilization of grassland resources under the background of global change. Participants included more than 90 domestic and foreign universities, research institutions, enterprises and institutions, including the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Hainan University, Lanzhou University, China Agricultural University, etc.
At the opening ceremony, researcher Fan Jiangwen said that this annual meeting is not only a grand event for academic exchanges, but also an opportunity for the collision and exchange of ideas in the industry. He hoped that the participants could take this opportunity to deepen cooperation and exchanges and jointly contribute to the progress and development of grassland science. Professor Zou Yonghua, Vice President of Hainan University, also emphasized in his speech the importance of Hainan University to academic exchanges, and expressed his willingness to share experiences with domestic and foreign peers and jointly explore sustainable utilization technologies of grassland resources. The keynote reports of the conference were hosted by researcher Fan Jiangwen of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Dong Shikui of Beijing Forestry University, researcher Dong Quanmin of Qinghai University, and President Liu Aijun of the Forestry and Grassland Monitoring and Planning Institute of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The conference invited experts and scholars from multiple institutions to give a series of wonderful keynote reports. The conference set up nine sub-forums, including "Monitoring and Management of Grassland Resources under Global Change", "Remote Sensing Monitoring and Big Data Analysis of Grassland Resources", "Climate Change and Grassland Agricultural Ecosystem", and "Grassland Ecological Value Accounting and Its Implementation Path". Through more than 80 academic reports, participants deeply explored new theories, methods and technologies for high-quality protection, restoration and sustainable utilization of grassland resources, and provided useful ideas and suggestions for the protection, restoration and sustainable utilization of fragile grassland ecosystems.
