Leaf chlorophyll content (LCC) is an important indicator of foliar nitrogen status and photosynthetic capacity. Accurate and timely mapping of LCC will benefit agronomists to guide fertilizer applications and ecologists to improve carbon flux estimation. In recent decades, remote sensing techniques have been widely used to estimate LCC with empirical and physical models.    Physical models are developed based on radiative transfer models that relate LCC to observed reflectance. The common practice of empirical modeling is to establish statistical relationships between LCC and vegetation indices (VIs) based on ground measurements. A recent study developed the LAI-insensitive chlorophyll index (LICI) and established a semi-empirical LICI-based LCC quantification model, which i...

Cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is popular with consumers over the world due to its special flavor. Soluble solids content (SSC) and firmness are two key metrics for evaluating the product qualities. The existing measuring techniques relying upon chemistry reactions can derive the SSC value accurately. However, the destructive methods can not be applied in high volume measurements. Moreover, there are significant variations so that sampling can be inefficient and inaccurate. Hyperspectral imaging technology can simultaneously detect the two-dimensional spatial information and 1D spectral ...

In the Arctic, the air temperature has increased more than twice the global average during the last few decades and may increase by 2-8°C before 2100. Wildfire frequency and expanse in the Arctic have increased in recent years. It can markedly disturb tundra ecosystems in different ways, including above-and belowground plant biomass destruction and alter soil properties through changes in the availability of soil phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), and carbon (C). At high latitudes, the frequency and extension of tundra fires are related to climatic conditions, and the increased occurrence of f...

Heavy metals in soil are harmful, and their migration and accumulation can seriously threaten ecological environmental security and human health. Arsenic (As) exhibits high neurotoxicity and teratogenicity. Much As is released into soil during human activities, including mining operations and industrial production activities. Determining the As concentration in soil quickly and accurately is important for As pollution assessment. The traditional heavy metal survey method aims to perform chemical property testing of soil samples collected in the field, which is a costly and time-consuming metho...

The pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) is a dangerous invasive species that causes pine wilt disease (PWD), which has already destroyed enormous areas of pine forest in China. Therefore, early-stage PWD detection is crucial for a prompt management response. Hyperspectral RS uses data from hundreds of bands and continuous wavelengths, and these bands can capture physiological changes in infested trees, which help detect early-stage pest and diseases infestations. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based hyperspectral images (HSI) can detect tree-level changes and are thus an effective t...

Microplastics (particles3. A considerable part of manufactured plastics is heavier than water when they enter water environment, and they can enter sediments system. Some studies have showed that the presence of microfibers in sediment could change the composition of marine sediment microbial communities and significantly affect the nitrogen cycling, and affect the biogeochemical process of marine sediment in the coastal zone. Under the background of global climate warming, the material exchange of the lake ecosystem at the sediment-water-atmosphere interface is more frequent. Furthermore, fre...

Identification and characteristic analysis of urban vegetation spectra under different dust depositionIn recent years, the ecological environment of cities has suffered a lot from damages due to the acceleration of urbanization. The transportation network, traffic flow, industrial activities, and the use of fossil fuels are sources of serious particulate pollutants in the urban greening environment. People pay more and more attention to dust pollution. Dust deposition capacity of plants, that is, the amount of dust deposited within unit time and unit leaf area, can reflect air quality status a...

Application of Resonon Pika L Hyperspectral Imaging on Individual tree segmentation and tree species classification in subtropical broadleaf forestsAccurate information on tree species is essential in sustainable forest management, ecosystem service assessment, biodiversity monitoring, and ecological environment protection. Therefore, efficient, and cost-effective ways for classifying individual tree species are highly desirable. Traditional ground survey of tree species is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and expensive, which is hard to implement in large area. Remote sensing can acquire feat...

An advanced soil organic carbon content prediction model via fused temporal-spatial-spectral (TSS) information based on machine learning and deep learning algorithmsIn the global carbon cycle, soil organic carbon (SOC) is the largest terrestrial carbon reservoir, which accounts for approximately 50-80% of the total terrestrial carbon, contains more than three times as much as the atmosphere or vegetation, and determines a landscape's carbon source/sink ability. Knowledge of the SOC content is critical for environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality. With the development of remote se...

Application of Resonon Pika L Hyperspectral Imaging on the estimation of amino acid contents in maize leavesMaize is one of the most important crops in the world. In maize growth, nitrogen (N) is one of the most important nutrient elements. The nitrogen translocation in maize leaves was mainly in the form of glutamine. The maize yield is correlated well with the amino acids in leaves, such as glutamine, glutamate, alanine, aspartate, and asparagine at the grain filling stage. Therefore, accurate, and rapid estimation of amino acid contents in maize leaves is of great significance in improving ...
