From October 23 to 25, the 8th China Wetland Remote Sensing Conference & 2026 Annual Academic Conference of the Digital Wetland Professional Committee was held in Nanjing.

Hosted by the Digital Wetland Professional Committee of the China National Committee for International Digital Earth Society and the Organizing Committee of the China Wetland Remote Sensing Conference, and undertaken by the National Key Laboratory of Lake and Watershed Water Security, the conference drew more than 300 participants, including experts, scholars, postgraduate students and enterprise representatives from over 90 universities and research institutes. Attendees gathered to discuss technical progress and practical applications in relevant fields.

Under the theme of Intelligent Cognition · Remote Sensing for Wetlands, the conference featured keynote speeches, thematic sessions, special academic workshops and round‑table forums to facilitate exchange of research achievements and promote academic collaboration. Apart from invited expert presentations, ten thematic sub‑sessions were organized, covering wetland vegetation remote sensing, remote sensing of lake‑wetland water environments, urban remote‑sensing monitoring and wetland‑oriented urban assessment, estuarine‑coastal wetland remote sensing, wetland classification‑mapping and biodiversity, wetland ecosystem functions and services, remote sensing for wetland conservation and restoration, digital wetlands and smart supervision, lake‑wetland carbon cycles and global change, as well as remote‑sensing studies on arid‑zone wetland ecosystems. Altogether, 120 oral reports were delivered.

As a supplier of self‑developed eco‑environmental instruments and technical service provider, LICA took part in this event. Drawing on its rich real‑world implementation cases and hands‑on remote‑sensing experience, company delegates engaged in in‑depth discussions with participating experts and scholars on the application challenges of remote‑sensing technologies for wetland ecological monitoring, and actively explored potential research cooperation opportunities.

Known as “the kidney of the Earth”, wetlands deliver irreplaceable benefits for ecological conservation, biodiversity preservation and climate regulation. Boasting advantages such as large‑area coverage, multi‑temporal observation, high precision and high efficiency, remote‑sensing technology has become a core tool for dynamic wetland monitoring and assessment. This conference built an interdisciplinary exchange platform for wetland‑remote‑sensing research, and enhanced participants’ capacity for wetland understanding, protection and management.

Through this participation, LICA‑United kept abreast of intelligent development trends within wetland remote sensing. The company will summarize outcomes from the conference, continuously improve its technical services for remote‑sensing‑based wetland ecological monitoring, and support precise monitoring and science‑informed management for wetland‑related research.
