Research background and significance


The importance of the ocean in the global system: The ocean covers about 71% of the earth's surface and is an important part of the global climate system. It plays a key role in regulating global climate, material circulation and energy exchange. Although traditional ocean monitoring methods such as shipborne measurements and buoy monitoring can obtain certain ocean information, they have problems such as limited spatial coverage, poor temporal continuity, and high manpower and material costs. Although satellite remote sensing can be used for large-scale observations, it has shortcomings in obtaining some details and specific parameters, such as the difficulty in accurately obtaining some optical characteristic parameters of water bodies. With the continuous advancement of optical technology, sensor technology and data processing technology, the performance of ground object spectrometers has been continuously improved, providing new technical means for ocean research. It can measure the spectral reflectance and radiation characteristics of the ocean surface at a finer scale, thereby obtaining more information about marine biology, chemistry and physics.

Ocean research


Ocean ecological monitoring: By measuring the spectral characteristics of ocean water bodies, analyzing the content and distribution of chlorophyll, plankton, etc., we can understand the structural and functional changes of the marine ecosystem, monitor the health of the marine ecological environment, such as monitoring the occurrence and spread of harmful algal blooms such as red tides, and provide a scientific basis for marine ecological protection and fishery resource management.


Ocean physical parameter inversion: Using the spectral data obtained by the ground feature spectrometer, physical parameters such as ocean surface temperature, salinity, and ocean currents can be inverted, which helps to improve the understanding and prediction capabilities of processes such as ocean circulation and climate change, and provide support for marine meteorological forecasts and marine disaster warnings.


Ocean chemical research: It can detect the content and distribution of chemical substances such as dissolved organic matter and nutrients in the ocean, study the marine biogeochemical cycle process, and understand the role of the ocean in the global carbon cycle and other processes.


Ocean resource development: Provide auxiliary information for marine oil and gas resource exploration, marine mineral resource surveys, etc., and find potential resource-rich areas by analyzing the spectral characteristics of seabed landforms and geological structures.
