Leaf chlorophyll content (LCC) is an important indicator of foliar nitrogen status and photosynthetic capacity. Accurate and timely mapping of LCC will benefit agronomists to guide fertilizer applications and ecologists to improve carbon flux estimation. In recent decades, remote sensing techniques have been widely used to estimate LCC with empirical and physical models.    Physical models are developed based on radiative transfer models that relate LCC to observed reflectance. The common practice of empirical modeling is to establish statistical relationships between LCC and vegetation indices (VIs) based on ground measurements. A recent study developed the LAI-insensitive chlorophyll index (LICI) and established a semi-empirical LICI-based LCC quantification model, which i...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi alleviate elevated temperature and nitrogen deposition- induced warming potential by reducing soil N2O emissions in a temperate meadowNitrous oxide (N2O) is one of the most important greenhouse gases and plays an important role in global warming (IPCC, 2013). N2O emissions contribute nearly 10% of anthropogenic climate warming because of their higher global warming potential. The emission of N2O has been influenced by many global changes, including elevated temperature, drought, and nitrogen (N) deposition. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form mutualist...

Application of Resonon Pika XC2 on Differentiating Cultivars, Growth Stages, Flowers, and Leaves of Industrial Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)As an emerging cash crop, industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) grown for cannabidiol (CBD) has spurred a surge of interest in the United States. Cultivar selection and harvest timing are important to produce CBD hemp profitably and avoid economic loss resulting from the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration in the crop exceeding regulatory limits. Hence there is a need for differentiating CBD hemp cultivars and growth stages to aid in cultivar and...

Estimation of biomass and nutritive value of grass and clover mixtures by analyzing spectral and crop height data using chemometric methods Accurate estimation of forage characteristics is needed to guide decision making on fertilization and harvesting schedules for farmers. It is a common practice to estimate forage nutritive value by laboratory analysis, which limits in-field decision making. Field spectroscopy offers a nondestructive approach to obtain crop biochemical information by measuring and analyzing canopy spectral reflectance (CSR). Crop height is an important agronomic parame...

Application of Resonon Pika L on winter wheat yield estimationCrop yield is one of the most critical issues affecting national economic development and food security. Accurate and timely crop yield estimation is essential for precision agriculture and sustainable development, and can provide strong support for agricultural decision-making and management. Traditional crop yield estimation heavily depends on ground field surveys, which are costly, time consuming and prone to large errors. The rapid development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offers a new approach to acquire high spatio-tempor...

Soil CO2 and CH4 emissions and their carbon isotopic signatures linked to saturated and drained states of the Three Gorges Reservoir of ChinaIncreased CO2 and CH4 emissions are the main causes of global warming (IPCC, 2013), with approximately 44% and 60% of CO2 and CH4 emissions being emitted into the atmosphere by anthropogenic activities. Human activities such as dams disturb the structure and function of wetlands, triggering large soil CO2 and CH4 emissions. However, controls over field CO2 and CH4 emissions and their carbon isotopic signatures in reservoir wetlands are not yet fully under...

PROSDM: Applicability of PROSPECT model coupled with spectral derivatives and similarity metrics to retrieve leaf biochemical traits from bidirectional reflectanceLeaf biochemical traits provide valuable information on understanding plant photosynthetic function, dynamic growth, nutrient cycling, and primary production. Leaf chlorophyll content (Cab), carotenoid content (Cxc), water content (Cw), and dry matter content (Cm) are considered as four main important leaf biochemical traits, which are connected to plant healthy and growth status, such as photosynthesis, nitrogen, stresses, and senes...

A machine learning algorithm to detect pine wilt disease using UAV-based hyperspectral imagery and LiDAR data at the tree level Pine wilt disease (PWD) is caused by the pine wood nematode (PWN, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) and is spread through the insect vector pine sawyer beetle (Monochamus spp.). It is a global destructive threat to forests, having caused extreme damage in China. Currently, PWD management countermeasures are mostly based on the control of dead trees after the onset of an outbreak by fumigation, burning, and tree-felling operations. Therefore, the development of a more e...

Chenghai Lake BasinShrinkage of plateau lakes under climate strength has drawn growing attention. Because of its intricate implication to hydro-meteorological condition and climate system, stable isotopes in precipitation (e.g. δ2Hp and δ18Op) provide us a powerful tool to understand the climate-hydrologic dynamics in shrinking lakes. Most studies, however, focused on either the impact of large-scale atmosphere circulation and moisture sources or the local isotopic fractionation processes. So far, limited study has yet been carried out on the combined effect of both the regional atmospheric ci...

Application of Resonon Pika L on quantifying leaf-scale chlorophyll, nitrogen and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in grapevineRapidly and accurately monitoring the physiological and biochemical parameters of grape leaves is the key to controlling the quality of wine grapes. Traditional methods for determining the physiological and biochemical parameters of crops require the collection of a large number of samples, which is time-consuming, labour-intensive and costly. As it is non-destructive and highly efficient, remote sensing-based spectral detection can overcome the limitations of other...

Application of ABB LGR CCIA on tracking the spatio-temporal fate of 13C-labelled assimilates in the soil of an old-growth pine forestWater is essential for all organisms and thus, the increasing intensity and frequency of drought in large areas of the Northern hemisphere is impacting the diversity and functioning of forest ecosystems. Impacts of drought on ecosystems range from immediate reductions of the metabolic activity of plants and soil organisms and the acclimation of physiological processes to species shifts under prolonged or reoccurring drought. The interrelation of different ecosyst...
